Hello CG,

Welcome to the Connection!

Alas, I haven't ever heard voices however I believe stress can exacerbate them and that makes sense to me.  I find that if I keep stress to a minimum I can go without symptoms.  Of course a person can have symptoms even when he or she doesn't have stress.  I have a theory that stress effects chemicals in the brain (cortisol is one of them if I recall) so that could be why the voices flare up when a person is under stress.

Feel free to write SharePosts or post other questions.  You will find people here to be supportive and we will encourage you in your career for one thing.

Myself, I have had no interest in math.  Writing is my thing.

Best regards,

Christina

Hello Christina, Thank you for welcoming me. Your stress theory sounds righ† to me, especially about cortisol. But I have very little career -- I do fine arts painting and graphs in MS Excel an try to sell them. What do you write about? Have you been published yet? All the best! Chris Reply

CG,

I'm the Living Life columnist for SZ magazine where I write about my recovery.

I consider your art and math to be "careers" of rhe heart.

Cheers,

Chris

Yes that's what they are -- "careers oof the heart." If you give me your address, I can email you some samples? Chris Reply

I also suffer from schizoaffective disorder.

I wish I knew the what, why and how voices are created. I would be in total ectasy if they went away for good.

I've heard voices for many years and recently started to fight back. The voices are less frequent.

I hope you can find a good way to deal with the voices.

Keep the faith,

Dave

Hi Dave! Thanks foor answering soo quickly! My Geodon works very well to control my voices; I'm on 10 meds in all, mostly for sleep. I did not have any meds when I attempted my CPA Exams though. That was extremely horrible!! I have a strategy with the voices that has worked when they are at their worst -- wanna hear it? I thought so! I call it "SHIFTING THE MORPHEMES!!" A morpheme is the smllest unit of a word that retains meaning, like adding an "s" to a word indicates making it plural, eg. from "pair" to "pairS" or "store" to "stores". I studied the American heritage Dictionary of 1976 very very hard for a long time -- in the back was a good section on the history and/or derivation of each word's ROOTS back to Old Norse or Indo-European, etc. I became able to THINK ALONG THE ROOTS of a sentence. When my brain started repeating antagonistically some phrase or sentence, like "All the Lord's angels are liars" I would SHIFT THE MEANING of the phrase like this: 1) All the lowered's inch hells are lyres 2) I'll they'll hoards and shells are pliars. When I added the p for pliars it became humorous to me, which is the goal -- because demons can't laugh -- but I can make what they say funny and just LAUGH AT IT!!! Hope that helps!! Chris Reply
