Dear Vijaya,

I'm glad to see your son is doing well.

This borders on medical advice, which I'm unable to give.

However, I can tell you I'm on Geodon and I expect to take this drug for as long as it continues to halt my symptoms.

Different people find relief at different doses.  I'm on a high dose with no side effects.

There are no guarantees that any drug will continue to work.  I was on Stelazine for 20 years and it stopped working, so I had to switch to an atypical.

The most important thing is, your son should have in place an action plan so that he's prepared should his medication need to be changed or altered.  A "Wellness Recovery Action Plan" like the one recommended by a woman whose last name I believe is Copeland could possibly be beneficial to have in place.  You could probably Google "Wellness Recovery Action Plan" and "schizophrenia" to find out.

Lastly, all drugs have risks and side effects, you have to weigh the potential for side effects versus the ability to be free of psychosis.

Best wishes,

Christina
