Hello concerned mom,   There is a genetic risk for schizophrenia that can be passed from parent to child or from one family member to another.  Schizophrenia runs in my family on my maternal grandmother's side of the family.  So I know of at least two relatives who have schizophrenia in addition to me.   This is entirely possible.  It is also possible that should your son want to have a child, his kid will develop a mental illness.    Regards, Christina
