Having a relapse what to do?

Karen Howard
10/05/08

I am having a relapse. I have tried every drug out there. I am on the highest does of Abilify and seroquel.  I have talked to my therapsit. But I don't know if there is anything more I can do.  This was triggered by my parents and then a week later my bestfriend got extremly upset with me. I told her 2 days before I was having a very hard time. She does not understand what I have.

Dear Ms.Howard, I'm sorry your having a rough go of it. I too have tried many meds. I find journaling helps me. I keep fairly busy. Don't despair, you may find the right med or a combo of meds that will work. There's hope. I believe that. Work with your pdoc. Above all else don't give up looking for answers. "if there's no seek, there's is no do."

Take care,

Dave

Hello Karen ,

Sorry to hear you feel some strong warning signs of relapse,

and so glad you have posted again. That has to be good.

Try not to feel hopeless and build up your coping skills. I can tell you are a strong person and your qualities will see you through.
Don't believe you have 'run out' of meds. Please check that side with your pdoc as soon as you can.

I note your mention of stressful triggers just now. It seems perhaps 'they are all coming together'  at the same time, no wonder you feel low and anxious:-of course that is just when the voices get active.

Karen ,I went back to read your shareposts from the beginning ,and see like many others here, and myself , you find the fall and its occasions leading up to Chrismas stressful.

But you did get through them ,remember that, and take courage. This too will pass.

Perhaps you could manage another share post?? (However brief).

I have noticed the response there is often totally different in flavour from the briefer 'ask' responses and often give great comfort.

I would look out for your post.

How is your daughter(s) doing. Another school year on!

Best wishes

Chris

Dear Karen Howard,

Please keep hopeful.  New drugs are in the pipeline and will be brought to market shortly.

Even with the medication not working, you can deal with that by utilizing the coping skills that work for you.  I suggest therapy if you're not seeing someone once a week, a therapist would help you cope with the sz symptoms.

Sometimes, with the schizophrenia, ordinary or minor things are blown up or take on more significance for us than they would with a person who doesn't have sz.  I'm not suggesting that is the case in your situation; however, it happens for a lot of us.

That's why I'm a big fan of therapy because it has helped me cope better than I could if I went it alone.  A person can have symptoms and still function; the key is to rely on coping skills while you're working with your doctor to find the right drug or combination of drugs that stop, halt or relieve your symptoms.

Have a happy day.

Best regards,

Christina
