SHIWZ, I HOPE YOUR HUSBAND IS ON MEDICATION AND UNDER A DRS CARE.
HE NEEDS SOMEONE WHO HE CAN TRUST AND GIVE HIM A LOT OF SUPPORT.
DEPENDING HOW HIS PARONIA COME OUT, IF HE IS VIOLENT AT ALL HE SHOULD BE HOSPITALIZED. IF HE IS JUST SCARED AND THE VOISES HE IS HEARING ARE
SAYING THINGS HE CAN HANDLE, THEN THERE IS NO REASON YOU CANNOT
STAY WITH HIM. GIVE HIM MUCH SUPPORT AND TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT THE VOICES ARE SAYING TO HIM. YOU AND YOUR FAMILY SHOULD NEVER SAY TO HIM
THAT HE IS NOT HEARING VOICES, BECAUSE HE REALLY IS. MAKE SURE HE IS
TAKING HIS MEDICATION!!!!!!RIGHT NOW IT IS TOO SOON TO TELL IF THIS IS THE
RIGHT MEDICATION FOR HIM. IT WILL BE TRIAL AND ERROR TO FIND THE RIGHT
MEDICATION. LETS HOPE THIS ONE WILL WORK. HIS SMELL MIGHT BE AFFECTED
AND HIS TASTE MIGHT BE, THIS GOES WITH SCHIZ. HE MIGHT BE DELUSIONAL
AND SEE THINGS THAT ARN'T THEREBUT YOU CAN REASURE HIM THAT IS PART
OF THE DESEASE, ONLY DON'T GET SCARED IF HE DOES NOT BELIEVE YOU.
I KNOW I HAVE TOLD YOU A LOT,BUT THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBURG.
IT WILL BE VERY HARD ON YOU TO SUPPORT AND BE WITH HIM. IF YOU HAVE
FAMILY THAT WILL BE THERE FOR YO AND BE UNDERSTANDING OF HIS DESEASE
YOU WILL NEED THAT. WHAT ARE YOUR AGES? IF YOU DO NOT MIND.
I HAVE MUCH EXPERIENCE WITH MENTAL ILLNESS. 20 YRS AGO MY SON CAME
DOWN WITH THIS DESEASE. I WENT TO SCHOOL TO LEARN AS MUCH AS I
COULD IN ORDER TO HELP HIM,SO I HAVE A DEGREE IN MENTAL HEALTH.
ALSO HAVE LIVED WITH IT. I AM CLOSING NOW. BUT WILL KEEP IN TOUCH
IF YOU WOULD LIKE. GOOD LUCK, SANDRA

Hello shiwani,
I understand how you feel about whether or not you can be safe if you haven't known someone with schizophrenia before. As long as your husband isn't abusing drugs or alcohol, chances are he will not be violent. Most people with schizophrenia aren't violent unless they have a history of violence or drug or alcohol abuse.
Your husband will need to see a psychiatrist and take his medication every day as prescribed to have the best chance of a full, productive life. Support and encourage him to do so. Understand that life won't be easy for him.
See if there is a support group for family members that you can attend where you live so that you can get support for what you go through living with a husband who has schizophrenia.
With treatment, a person diagnosed with schizophrenia can recover.
So please encourage your husband to take his medication.
Regards,
Christina

My husband has been diagnosed with paranoia and extreme depression. He is scared all the time, does not wnat to do anything, but sit. He has heart disease and diabetes with high blood pressure. I have him seeing a psychiatrist, but they keep changing his meds, but it is not helping. I am so frustrated. Does it ever end, will he always be scared and unhappy or is there a med that they will find to help him. Please comment. thanks. Frustrated wife in Kansas.
