Hello shiwani,   I understand how you feel about whether or not you can be safe if you haven't known someone with schizophrenia before.  As long as your husband isn't abusing drugs or alcohol, chances are he will not be violent.  Most people with schizophrenia aren't violent unless they have a history of violence or drug or alcohol abuse.   Your husband will need to see a psychiatrist and take his medication every day as prescribed to have the best chance of a full, productive life.  Support and encourage him to do so.  Understand that life won't be easy for him.    See if there is a support group for family members that you can attend where you live so that you can get support for what you go through living with a husband who has schizophrenia.   With treatment, a person diagnosed with schizophrenia can recover.    So please encourage your husband to take his medication.   Regards, Christina
