Hello lori1979,   A restraining order is for your protection so at this point you may want to get one.  He is a danger to himself or others, and that is the criteria for admitting a person to a psych ward.  At this point, he needs to be involuntarily committed because, yes, he is a danger to you and others.  In all likelihood he may have a symptom where he does not believe he is sick, it's called anosognosia, so it will be harder for him to stay in treatment.   So yes, I would not hesitate to get a restraining order.  This is for your safety.  At this point, if I were you, I wouldn't care about whether something you did caused him to be inflamed.  You have no control over his actions.  Without the restraining order, you run the risk of him injuring you.   So the question is: would you rather enrage him or would you rather be dead?   Regards, Christina
