Hi kitten,

I suggest your monitor your duaghter's behavior, moods and thoughts and if you feel your current doctor has misdiagnosed her and isn't willing to reconsider the diagnosis, you get a second opinion.

However, I wouldn't get hung up on the diagnosis as long as the medication she's taking alleviates whatever symptoms she has right now.  In the future, her symptoms may change or new ones appear, and thus the diagnosis could change in time.

So the question to ask yourself is if you feel your daughter needs a different kind of treatment now or if you can monitor what's going on to see if she will need other treatment in the future.

Only a qualified psychiatrist can make the determination that someone has SZ, so if you don't feel the current pdoc knows what he's doing or you don't trust him, get a second opinion.

Regards,

Christina

Hi kitten,

To directly answer your question, teenagers are moody and do a lot of strange, unusual things, regardless of whether or not they have schizophrenia.  I answered your question the way I did the first time because you said she has bizarre thinking.

Christina

Sometimes young people will behave stange when they are trying to fit in or be different like wanting to be unique. I don't know if thats the case here. Sometimes they are in need of some sort of wanting to be noticed if you can afford it take a vacation, the whole family (if everyone can get along) go to the ocean or something enjoyable this helps sometimes. IF she needs medsd get the meds then go on vacation it sometimes gives people a better OUTLOOK on LIfe this even helps some people recovering from schizophrenia. God Bless you I hope you all the best. Smile
