Q: Im having problems comprehending my problem actually, am i schizophrenic? More detail below.

Ok, so do not know if i am schizophrenic or not but i have been told i should look into it. I hear these noises (not voices most of the time) that always drown out people around me and they drive me to break downs, screaming and sobbing. They are never pleasant either, they are painful to hear and sometimes terrifying because they sound like they are in a language that has never been discovered. My head is always so loud because its filled with these things, also, if i look around, i can tell where the noise is coming from. Like, if i look at the lamp across the room from me, i could describe the noises that are coming from that direction, so to a normal person it would be like the objects around them are making noises but i know that it isn't that. Also, in my room i always get horrible feelings of being watched from the closed across the room, or the fire place (i sleep in the basement) and i've tried burning sage and using brick dust, black salt, and normal salt as well and none of that has worked. I also get very weird experiences as well like the other night i woke up in the middle of the night and opened my eyes to the feeling of being strangled and spun around the room. Im not sure what all of this is, but i really would like some help if any one can offer it. ~Mandii~

Hi,

I often refer people to a list of schizophrenia early warning signs.

Right now I would tell you to talk to someone in person: a therapist, a psychiatrist, your primary care doctor who can accurately [at this point in time] diagnose what is going on at this point in your life.

If it turned out you had schizophrenia: the earlier you got treatment the better the outcome would be.

You are in a lot of discomfort now and deserve to have peace of mind.

Imagine: if what you are experiencing now was to continue for the rest of your life.  You might have 20, 30, 40 or even 50 more years here.  Imagine screaming and sobbing every day for the rest of your life.  Imagine hearing these noises non-stop.

Put in that context I'm sure you will understand why I can tell you to speak to someone in person right now.  The symptoms of schizophrenia, for the majority of people, and the symptoms of other mental health conditions, do not go away on their own.

For the majority of people with schizophrenia, some form of medication and therapy is required.

Please understand there is no shame in having a mental health condition.  I have schizophrenia and I went on to become the community leader of this web site, and I also have a degree in library science and I have a day job.

So I want to stress that with effective management of these kinds of things: you can have a good life.

Regards,

Christina
