Q: I dont see myself suffering from schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Is it possible that 600mg of Seroquel daily could be prescribed for stress relief only ?

why did they give me Seroquel 300 XL if it is not licensed in the UK?

I have asked a report from the doctor GP on my notes as I have moved to London recently and he refused. He said I can look at them at the new doctor's office but I cannot have a report sent to me by post.

My husband is chasing me at the moment as I left him because he was hiting me and threghtened me with all sorts - social services (as I have a 3 year old and took her with me)- reporting us -to the same police I had reported him for hiting me- as missing people. Although he was speaking to me on the phone. Have stayed with friends he sparingly knew for about 2 weeks now and has found their numbers and left horrible messages and lies with his brother . That I am a psychotic that I have been mentally ill for 20 years...I am horrified with the lies he tells. My friends are very sad because he leaves messages on their phones..

Help..he is ruining my life.

Hello Penny,

I believe I hear what you're saying so let me feed back my interpretation:

I see you're angry at your ex-husband for the way he's been treating you.

Physical abuse or verbal abuse is wrong, wrong, wrong.

As regards your medical records, I'm not sure how it is in the UK, but in the U.S., as long as you request, in writing, your health records, you're supposed to receive them from the doctor, who is able to charge you a photocopying fee if he feels it's necessary.

I'm not a professional who diagnoses or treats medical conditions, however, I can say that sometimes drugs are prescribed "off-label," that is, for uses not authorized by the FDA [in the U.S.] or whatever the regulatory agency is in the UK.

I would get a second, independent opinion from a qualified doctor to put your mind at ease if you'd like.

Regards,

Christina

Hello Penny,

First let me say this is a reply as a non-expert but I hope it may be of some help in suggesting some leads though this rough time.

On reading your 'question post' the first thing I hear loud and clear is that you and your child have apparently removed in crisis from a situation of domestic violence and abuse. Now you are trying very naturally to ensure safety and distance for you both, at present  with friends.

Sadly your personal situation is of course all too common, and here it sounds you might take advice from Women's safety and shelter organisations, eg to gain some info into your rights/ versus husband's (contact etc) and practical advice to safeguard your situation.

Your husband is obviously intending using the 'unfit mother'  argument, again a very common ploy.

On the question of your medication and what exactly it has been prescribed for over time,I would just say that you should discuss this in honest detail with your new doctor, who hopefully you feel you can trust. You need medical allies too...

I imagine that Seroquel has helped your symptoms and improved your mental health?

You would know if this is true.....I can only guess here.

Your husband 'giving you a diagnosis', real or imagined, from  what medicine you take serves is only his purpose to undermine you and your attempt to cope.

Finally , as a general statement, not directed to you personally I must  say that having  bipolar disorder,  schizophrenia  and other related conditions in no way preclude successful parenting. People can be 'well' with these conditions, but stress certainly doen't help, and struggles are harder then.

Good luck
Chris,(retired doc, non psych)
