Hi Adam's mom,

Schizophrenia is a thought disorder that can affect one's mood.  Schizoaffective is a combination of SZ and a mood disorder, such as mania or depression.  My take on this is that the mood component of someone with SZ is observed to a lesser degree than it is in someone with SZA.  It is also possible for someone who is diagnosed with SZ to get a different diagnosis, such as bipolar, or vice versa, when new symptoms or changes in mood or thought are presented at a later date.

Although I have SZ, I've noticed my mood has improved with the atypical I'm now on.

Regards,

Christina
