Medication Query
Im currently on 20mg zyprexa and 150 mg effexor xr , and just after some feedback by patients or Dr or anyone in the know - searched on internet but i seem to get too many answers and differences in reactions and side effects. I dont see my Dr for another 4 days so just want to run something by , have been on meds just for 4-5 weeks . Last couple of night have had night sweats nothing huge but damp chest and forehead , and today my legs feel like lead. I have vivid dreams which i cant remember but i know i had them. I also feel light headed and dizzy like you feel when you have a cold or the flu but i have no runny nose or cough but when i breath through my nose or mouth the air is hot. my stomach hurts just a little at the front around the ribs but this may be due to my spine which is not in good condition. Thanks if anyone can help.
Hello xylar,
I hope this reaches you in time.
It could side effects, yet I wouldn't right away change medications after only 4 to 5 weeks on this one drug.
For you to have this insight and be doing well after only four to five weeks on a medication routine, I wouldn't consider stopping the meds at all, but if, with the doctor's review, he or she wants to switch you to another drug, that's something you could do.
To have found relief from your symptoms after five weeks is entirely possible if you've found the right medication.
Yet some of what you've talked about could be a side effect. Changing the dose of the Zyprexa or Effexor could be an option the doctor decides to pursue, too.
Good luck.
Let us know what happens after your visit.
Best,
cb

What I have to say can in no way substitute for what your doctor has to say, but I too am taking 20mg of Zyprexa, plus 300mg of Wellbutrin and 150mg of Zoloft and 150mg of Trazodone, plus a number of other meds for physical ailments. I have been on most of the newer antidepressants and antipsychotics, and I have had side effects with all. Everything from difficulty urinating, to nightmares, to horrific weight gain, to restless legs, to hypothyroidism, to agitation, and the list goes on. One even paralyzed my facial muscles. By the time I answer this, I guess you would already have seen your doctor. Sometimes it takes work to convince a psychiatrist that you are indeed having side effects, or that is what usually happens to me. And sometime you will be the one who decides whether the side-effect-to-symptom-relief ratio is worth taking the med. But it should always be with the permission of your pdoc. Be up front with her and make sure she listens.
