Hello moten34,

I understand that you want clarity about the diagnosis so that you can proceed with confidence in your treatment.

At this point, only a qualified psychiatrist can ggive you a diagnosis and monitor you to see if the medication is working.  The symptoms you describe are not side effects of any antipsychotic, like Abilify, that I know.  The goal is that, in time, you will see relief, hopefully total relief, from your paranoia.  If you feel the drugs aren't working and your psychiatrist has tried the Ability and Lamictal and Luvox for an adequate time, without any relief after a long course of the drugs, your doctor can try a new drug or combination of drugs.  Sometimes it takes trial-and-error to find the right drug or combination of drugs that alleviate the symptoms.

I wouldn't get hung up on a diagnosis, because two different conditions, such as bipolar and schizophrenia, could have identical symptoms, such as psychotic features.  The bottom line is to get symptom relief.  As new symptoms appear or old symptoms change in intensity, a medication change could be in order, and a diagnosis could change over time as well.

Chrisitna

I have a lot of questions after reading your post.  Such as what your symptoms were that led your doctor to prescribe those meds.  I have noticed in my own case that my symptoms have come and gone, and at times I have had different symptoms than those I started with.  And I have no idea why.  But I don't think it is med side effects.  It is more likely that you need to give the meds more time, or work with your doctor in a change of prescription.  I had to take many meds before finding the right "cocktail."  And, not to discourage you, but my recovery took years.  But when you get there, it is worth the effort.  It is often something you have to work at every day -- to stay positive, to be good to yourself, to avoid too much stress, and above all working with your doctor to feel as well as possible.  The important thing to realize is that you ARE on the way to recovery.  And you will find a lot of support at this site.  I look forward to seeing more posts from you.

I recommend you read about orthomolecular pschiatry. It invloves the use of vitamin supplements and niacin (the vitamin B3). It was founded by the psychiatrist Dr. Michael Lesser who is still in practice in the San Francisco bay area. Dr. Lesser has even made speeches to the US congress about his work. He got his degree from Cornell University. He even wrote a book called "The Brain Chemistry Diet" where you can learn about your brain personality and find out what foods you should eat and what specialty vitamin supplements you can take depending on your brains personality type. If you dont like your medications this diet and vitamin therapy specialized to your case will even completely get rid of your need for debilitating drugs that a lot of people say you will need for the rest of your life. Dont believe that bullshit. You dont need those bogus medications (drugs) at all with the help of orthomolecular pschiatric vitamin medicine. I hope you read into this field of psychiatry because it sounds like you could use it.
