Hello CSeeley,
Consult with a reputable psychiatrist right now. Some medications are safe to take during pregnancy. If you need to find a doctor you can use the CastleConnolly doctor finder.
Schizophrenia is treated with medication. I would be very leery of going off your medication if you have schizophrenia. The psychiatrist might tell you not to take it while you're pregnant however it's quite possible you'll have to go back on the meds after the baby is born. It is possible that you might have post-partum psychosis and if that happens you would need to take medication.
I cannot in good conscience tell someone who has had the symptoms of schizophrenia, who wants to have a life as good or better than before she got sick, to go off their medication.
I say this because I have a Masters degree and have worked over 12 years in a professional job and yes by the way I was diagnosed with SZ when I was 22 and I'm now 45.
Think of your baby. I doubt you want to risk becoming symptomatic again once your child is born.
Regards,
Christina
