Yes, genetics does seem to play a role in paranoid schizophrenia. Yes, children of schizophrenics are at a slightly higher risk of developing the disease. No, there does not seem to be a way to prevent people from developing schizophrenia.  Early diagnosis and proper treatment lead to a better prognosis.
