No it is not usual for anyone to have homicidal thoughts, however your son may need help whether he has schizophrenia or not.  If he seems at all threatening, report him to the authorities.  This sounds harsh, but it may be the only way to get him help.  He will not be charged with any crimes if he has not committed any, but if he is considered a threat to himself or others they can take him to a psychiatric facility against his will.  That is the only way he will be hospitalized if he is not willing to seek help for himself. It would be better to get help for distubing thoughts than to spend his life in jail for acting on them.   Of course, lots of people get angry and say things that they do not really mean.
