Q: Effect of schizophrenic drugs on the liver

My nephew, 40 years old has schizophrenia since 1986.  He has been confined in an institution and taking maintenance drugs.  Five years ago he became yellowish and was treated in a hospital.  The reason given for his ailment was his liver is affected by the drugs he is taking.  This morning I was told he is again becoming yellowish and is being referred to an internist specializing in liver diseases.  What is the effect of schizophrenic drugs to the liver. Is there a possibility that the liver gets damaged? How can it be prevented? Thank you.

Hello elcee,

I am sorry to hear your nephew is having health problems.

While I can answer 95 percent of the questioned asked here, the type of question you ask is best answered by a doctor or a competent pharmacist.
