Are there any resources to help a 13 year old, fairly immature and sheltered boy, understand what schizophrenia is? I have a client whose father has paranoid schizophrenia, and I cannot locate any books to offer him to help him understand his father's illness (which was just recently shared with the mother). The parents were divorced when the child was young, and the father has steadily become more ill.

Hello Lisa,
Elaine Landau wrote a book titled Schizophrenia, which is available on line at Barnes & Noble, at www.bn.com .
A title more for a younger reader is out of print, so try a used bookstore online for this. It appears at www.bn.com, so you could see if they could look for it for you, too.
It was written by Richard W. Carlson and published by iUniverse:
Schizophrenia? Huh? Stories for Children.
Lastly, because he is young for his age, you may want to get the Elaine Landau book and read to him from the most relevant parts that he might be able to understand. The Landau book is for 13 and up most likely.
