Hi SZ Dad,

I suggest you contact NAMI at (800) 950-NAMI (6264) if no one on this site is able to recommend a psychiatrist in L.A.  NAMI will give you the name and number of the local affiliate near you so you can talk to other family members at one of their family support groups.  Often, the mothers and fathers there will recommend a doctor.  Sometimes, not always, the NAMI affiliate staff will also recommend a doctor.

There's also a book, America's Top Doctors or Top Doctors in America that you can get from the public library on a reference copy.  For any psychiatrist, you should ask questions before signing on long-term with him or her.

I wrote a SharePost here called The Top Ten Questions to Ask Your Doctor if you would be interested in reading it before making any calls.

I always recommend interviewing two or three professionals-be they doctors or therapists-and choosing the one you get the best vibe from.  I did this with my current therapist and psychiatrist, by the way.

Hope this helps for now.  If any community member at the Connection lives in L.A. and can chime in, I'd love to hear from you, too.

Regards,

Christina
