Q: Inappropriate uses of Thorazine

I have been told by someone that he used thorazine in his 20's (he is now in his 50's) as an illegal drug for a "high."  As I am writing his memoirs, and he wants to include this information, I am wondering if this is medically accurate.

Hello chanteuse,

Frankly, I've never heard of anyone actually WANTING to use Thorazine for any reason if they did not absolutely have to.  The side effects of Thorazine, which was one of the earliest if not the first of the anti-psychotics, are so troublesome as to render this "cure" worse than the illness at times.

I will ask around to find out if it is possible to get "high" from Thorazine, because Thorazine is like a tranquilizer that so zombifies some people that I don't see the benefit in having used it recreationally.

As well, you have to question who prescribed the Thorazine for him, and how he got it if a doctor didn't give it to him.  I also haven't heard of Thorazine being bought on the street, like versions of Vicodin or Oxycontin are.

Again, I will ask around.

Regards,

Christina

I also took Thorazine in my 20's. I used to do what was commonly called the "Thorazine shuffle." That is what happens when you take it. You shuffle your feet and are almost rigid Your arms don't move. I cannot imagine anyone taking that to get high from it. I'll tell ya I never caught a buzz from it. The effects are horrible.

hell yea its true. i took a quarter of a 100mg tab, and was completely blown out on it while skating. my dad is a physician and concluded that it works very differently on people who have no problems with anxiety etc...instead it acts more like a tranquilizer when abused. and yea they go for alot of money on the streets too. 8 bucks a pop usually. pill poppers love thorazine haha.

the side effects/withdrawl symptoms are terrible tho.

I am currently in my 20s and was prescribed Thorazine for severe anxiety. Little did I know my mother (who has Bi-Polar/Schizophrenia) had been on this pill previously. It was a horrible experience for me it caused involuntary muscle spasms that lasted for hours along with no sleep due to restlessness.

Thumbs Down...And if you're looking for a "high" look somewhere else it isn't worth it.
