Hello sharonE,

Schizophrenia does have a genetic component.

This is my own personal opinion and is not based on any study. My SZA I believe was caused by genetics, physical abuse and illegal drugs.

My pdoc told me once that I am like the space shuttle that blew up. There's was something wrong with it before it launched.

I was abused at a very young age. Did drugs in my teens years and got "sick" the first at 17.

I have first cousins that have a mental diagnosis.

If you think you may have SZ, I would suggest you seek professional help. They can treat you and give you more info.

You would know if you exhibited any of these early warning signs.

Some people with schizophrenia lack the awareness that they have an illness.  This is a symptom called anosognosia.

Other people quite often do know.

Christina
