Hello Parry,
I would believe a group home could cost upwards of $20,000 or more a year.
In 1988 through 1990, I lived in a halfway house and then a residence and the cost of the rent and the staff fees was paid by my government SSDI and SSI checks. I had $100 left over each month, from the checks, to live on, after the checks paid for this housing.
So the wind-up is you might have very little out-of-pocket expenses if the group home accepts only the SSDI and SSI checks as payment.
You can fing a good group home by asking NAMI members at your local NAMI chapter. Dial (800) 950-NAMI (6264) to find the local chapter in your city or town that hosts family support meetings where the members might be able to clue you into a good group home.
Alternately, you can log on to the social services resource locator to find the number number of an agency in the U.S. near you that can give you information about housing in your area.
Regards,
Christina
