Hello edwin,

I want to give you some hope and encouragement.

You are not alone. A lot of us diagnosed with SZ feel angry or sad at times.

It is possible that if you are new to recovery you are going through one of the stages of emotional response to trauma.  You can click on that link to read about this in a SharePost I wrote two years ago here.  You can also be in any one of the stages at any time in your recovery.

Also: let your psychiatrist know about the anger and depression.  These could be clinical symptoms or as I said they could be a response to your diagnosis.  I urge you to read the SharePost and see if any of what I've written makes sense.

I found that with my recovery, it took a number of years for the anger and resentment to fall away to the point where I'm not angry any more.  Sometimes I do feel said and get depressed too yet that also is not routine.

So you have much to look forward to.

Regards,

Christina

are you angry because of the loss of an ability to do things that you were previously able to do. some people aren't able to function around 8 or 9am after taking prescriptions. goodwill industries has work through vocational rehab. they say they spend six months shifting working hours. they help people who work late hours gradually get back to a morning routine.

I have schizophrenia, too.  And from what I have experienced, I am not surprised that anyone with sz has anger and/or depression.  You used the word "suffering," for example.  And it is an appropriate word.  You are suffering in many ways, I would imagine: stigma, lack of information, not knowing whether these are the exact meds  and/or doses that you need for relief, facing a long road to recovery, perhaps loss of standing in your community or job loss or family problems resulting from sz, and I could go on.  No wonder you are angry and depressed.  Anyone who goes through a great loss would feel that way at some point.

Are you seeing a therapist?  Sometimes that can be a big help.  Someone to talk to who won't judge you.  Be willing to share your true feelings with your psychiatrist and to continue to try medication adjustments till you find one that works.  I had to try many meds before discovering that Zyprexa is the only antipsychotic that works well for me.  Maybe the Risperdal will be what works for you.  For my depression to go away, I have to take 300mg Wellbutrin SR, 7.5mg Deplin, 40mg Zoloft, and 75mg of Trazodone daily.  Plus I think Zyprexa helps the depression, too.  I have to take anywhere from 10mg to 40mg of Zyprexa, according to how I feel from month to month.

Be sure to come here and talk to us when you are feeling this way.  This is a great site for support.  On the good side -- I have finally come out of the black cocoon of depression and the anger only flares rarely now.  And my sz symptoms have abated.

Best wishes to you,

Carolyn
