Q: Could these actions/characteristics be a sign of childhood schizophrenia?

Do children with schizophrenia normally have average to high IQ's?  Is it common for them to have other disorders, such as dysgraphia, as well?  Do they hear voices of friends/family who are not there? Do they have bizarre imaginations, making unusual comments that are beyond the normal childhood imagination?  Do they have difficulty concentrating, getting frustrated at themselves when they are unable to complete a task?

Hello concerned,

If you at all sense something is not right or that your son or daughter is not themselves, consider getting a qualified professional to evaluate him or her.  Each person who has schizophrenia exhibits different symptoms, so one person with SZ may hve different troubling thoughts than another person with SZ.  The content of the thoughts can be similar, yet not always.  For example, I thought the government was after me.  Another person might think her food is poisoned.  So it is possible that one person could have the symptoms you describe.

If the symtpoms you describe are actual ones experienced by your son or daughter, consider taking them for an evaluation, particularly if they are hearing voices.  Hearing voices is one of the class symptoms of SZ for anyone.

Lastly,  I want to say that myself I'm wary of judging young children as being normal or not normal and given excessive or unwarranted doses of drugs.  But if the child in question hears voices and a diagnosis of SZ is made, chances are medications and therapy will be involved.

A child with SZ can have any IQ level, by the way.  And I don't know how common it is for them to have other disorders like dysgraphia.

Regards,

Christina

I guess that makes every child who are spiritually gifted, connected to God/Source, mentally handicapped! Please before labelling anyone as a "sick" or "disturbed" get all the information and facts first. Majority of the times that I have witnessed parent/child relationship, "parents" simply put, don't want the responsibility of taking care of their children/child! Parents/guardians don't have to abandon the child physically in order for a child(s) to feel neglacted and abandoned or unwanted!

Child(s) starts to seek attention from other sources...
