Q: what to do about a brother who is maybe suicidal with mental problems but sells medication for pot?

my brother has schizophrenia and has almost all of teh symptoms, heilucanations, voices, paranoid, doesn't make much sense.. etc. Well he has been posting things on facebook about how god will give him a knife... another post said he hopes he doesn't do something that he regrets. Well my mom and sister brought him to the doctor today and refilled his medicine. After they left he asked my sister to stop at his friends so he could drop off a dvd. he came back to the car smelling like pot and didn't have his pills anymore. he sold the pills for weed. we are at our wits end.. what can we do? pllleeease i'm pleading for anyone with answers!

He needs to be court-ordered to take medication.  In New York State this law is informally called Kendra's Law.  People diagnosed with schizophrenia who use street drugs are more likely to be or become violent.  Do not take this risk lightly.

 

Call NAMI-the National Alliance on Mental Illness at (800) 950-NAMI (6264) to find the name and number of the local affiliate in your city or town in the U.S.  They will give you the information about court-ordered treatment in your state.
