Q: Is it possible for a schizophrenic to realise there might be something wrong?

I SEEM TO FIT THE CRITERIA FOR SCHIZOHRENIA,SPECIFICALLY PARANOID. I THOUGHT WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS RELATIVELY NORMAL UNTIL PEOPLE TOLD ME IT WASNTWASN'T, LIKE PEOPLE HEARING MY THOUGHTS. IM AWARE THAT MENTALLY THERESTHERE'S SOMETHING WRONG, IF I WAS SCHIZOPHRENIC WOULD I EVEN BE ABLE TO REALISE THIS OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE?

Hello JessR,

I'm not a professional so can't diagnose what's going on.  You ought to see a professional to put your mind at ease.

It is possible for someone with schizophrenia to know that something is wrong.  Schizophrenia has a number of symptoms, not all of which are psychotic, and there are different kinds of schizophrenia as well.

You know the exact nature of what's going on however you have not been specific or detailed to us so I cannot suggest you have schizophrenia.  It could be something else entirely.  You won't know unless you seek help.

Anything out of the ordinary needs to be checked out as soon as possible.

If it turns out you have schizophrenia immediate treatment with drugs and therapy gives you the best possible outcome.

However it could be something else.  Put your mind at ease and speak to someone in person.

Regards,

Christina

But very late that is after the damage is done, so no use.
