Is this an affective med? The person is in a foggy state at time with the med. Is it best to get a second evaluation when a person has a mental illness? Thank you.

Hello richard Berryessa,

A quick Google search of "risperdal bipolar" brings up a Web site that suggests Risperdal can be used for the psychotic features of bipolar and other mental illnesses.

Sometimes, the drugs don't kick in immediately, and there could be side effects, some of which may go away in time.  If the "foggy state" continues, the patient should talk to his doctor about this to see if there's a solution, like a dose change or switch to another medication.

I really can't give you medical advice.   What I've said, above, is standard information for you to consider that everyone should be aware of when first starting any medication.

Can't say if it's an effective med because a drug that works for one person might not work for someone else, and often it's trial-and-error for the doctor coming up with the right drug and right dose.

So keep hopeful, always.

If you want to get a second opinion, by all means do so to put your mind at ease.

Regards,

Chri
