Hello Alisiza,
Hope you are shaking off your bad cold now.
Non expert reply follows and is accurate to my best knowledge only:
Would agree with Christina that the best bet is to ask your pharmacist, but I would warn that the decongestant part of Dayquil belongs to adrenaline stimulating group of drugs (even if very weak) and can rarely cause stimulant effects , rapid heart beat and even hallucinations.
It just might rock the boat with your meds that are hopefully in the process of stabilising and 'being right for you' (that takes time and it is early days)
Must say I have been glad to follow your journey in recovery since you joined the Connection and your lively entries enrich the site.
I know from your last post you have had some ups and downs lately so I would be cautious if it were me and avoid the 'remedy'.That is just me though.
Interestingly ,by chance, just this a.m in UK there has been an official announcement that such remedies should no longer be reccomended over ther counter for under sixes !!
I know that is not your age group but I immediately thought of you
because of the coincidence of timing! This technology is amazing.
The reasons for the announcement stated were
1 There is little evidence of great effectiveness on course of the infections nd symptoms (relief often very temporary and rebound possible)
2 Rarely they may cause side effects including hallucinations.
The advice continued that the low dose painkiller aminocitopen that is included (what we call paracetamol in UK) was OK to use, but to try old fashioned warm Honey and lemon, or what your gran might have given you to soothe and pamper!!
Incidentally I gather in the last year or so the decongestant (stimulant) part of Dayquil has been altered so it is less effective although perhaps safer. the previous forfulation was open to misuse and street drug manufacture for 'highs'.
Good luck,
Chris
