Hello john,

As per your question, I suggest you informally poll the others in her life, family, friends and see if they've observed any changes as well.

Only a psychiatrist can make the diagnosis of schizophrenia.

And the professional who would treat her would need to do bloodwork and give her a Mental Status Exam (MSE) to rule out other conditions before making the diagnosis of schizophrenia.

You could suggest she get help; however, as I'm made clear in here (it's been an ongoing them of the past two weeks), you have to couch what you say to her in such a way that it sounds like you care, not like you're nagging her to do something.

Hopefully there is anothe reason for your girlfriend's behavior that will be short-lived; However, if she does have schizophrenia she needs to get early treatment for a better outcome.

Perhaps you could ask her something along the lines of, "I"d like to talk to you.  How's it going?  Would you like to talk?  I have something to say that you might disagree with, however, my intent is not to argue with you.  I respect your opinion and would like to know how you feel about this.  I believe maybe you're going through a rough time.  Would you like to talk about it?"

From there, you'll know if she's receptive to seeing a professional, and you can decide whether at that moment, you have her trust and can recommend she do this.  If she's initially not receptive, just be patient, give her love and support and build the relationship so that you can approach her again if necessary.

I wish you the best.

Please, don't assume she has schizophrenia, even though there is a possibility from what you've said that she could have it.

Regards,

Chri

John,

I am not a doctor, but I believe we have the same problem.

About a week ago my friend told me story about her ex-boyfriend (who, according to her story, is about 15 years older than she is)---has been spying on her, hacking her cellphones, listening to her conversations, prevent her from calling friends and family members (especially male, including me), etc.

When I told my brother about this, he suggest me to look for articles about schizophrenia.

I am still not sure about this, but I really want to help, if I can.
