Hi Anchal,

I understand the situation with your brother is upsetting to you and your family.

Do not give up, I urger you do not give up.

I suggest that each kind of SZ medication be tried for as long as practical, and you brother's doctor go down the line until you've exhausted all the drug options.

Your brother may need the care of staff at a group home since it could possibly be beyond the scope of you or your parents ability to be caregivers to your brother.  You don't say where you're living or if there are suitable group homes in your area.  I would investigate that option.

Lastly, you mentioned your brother is suicidal.  Please don't take any threat of his lightly; he needs help that you aren't equipped to give.  So I suggest if you live in the United States to contact NAMI at (800) 950-NAMI (6264) to find the name and number of a local affiliate in your area.  If you are in India, I hear there's an organization called Banyan, I may be spelling it wrong however I believe it helps people with mental illnesses.

Another option is for him to join what's called a day program so he can have something to do during the day where he can meet with counselors, and other people who are working on mental health issues.

Do not give up, I urge you do not give up.

Regards,

Christina
