This medication is used to treat schizophrenia. It may also be used for the short-term treatment of anxiety. For anxiety, it is generally used when other medications cannot be taken. Trifluoperazine can help stabilize the symptoms of schizophrenia and improve mood, making it easier to function in everyday life. Trifluoperazine is part of a class of drugs called phenothiazines. It works by affecting the balance of certain chemicals in the brain.

How To Use Stelazine

Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once or twice daily or as directed by your doctor. Dosage is based on your medical condition, age, weight and response to therapy.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same times each day.

It may take two to three weeks for this medication to take effect.

Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
