The government of Australia has given $1.5 million dollars to improve the understanding of schizophrenia. This money will allow researchers in that country to examine the changes in the brains of mentally ill young people by using advanced scanning techniques. The grant will also fund research on the apparent ability of the female hormone estrogen to improve brain function in people with schizophrenia.
