A sociology professor at University of Pennsylvania has found that while many Americans believe mental illness has genetic causes, they are no more tolerant of the mentally ill than they were 10 years ago. Among the professor's findings were that many Americans see people who suffer from schizophrenia as genetically "damaged" and prone to violence.
