Abilify may help alcohol dependence

A medication used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder may help people who are dependent on alcohol, new research suggests. In a recent study, different doses of the drug Abilify significantly increased the sedative effects and--to a lesser degree--reduced the euphoric effects of alcohol in study participants. Scientists say this finding suggests that Abilify has the potential to reduce drinking if doctors can find the right dose for an individual patient. Read more »
