Drugmaker Allon Therapeutics is reporting that its new experimental drug for treating schizophrenia has shown promise in a mid-stage trial. In the study, schizophrenia patients who were given the medication showed improvement in levels of N-acetyl aspartate (NAA), an indicator of brain cell health. The medication failed to meet its end-stage goal in a previous mid-stage trial.
