German researchers using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology have found that the flow of blood in the brain is different in people who have schizophrenia. The scientists found that compared to the healthy controls, schizophrenic patients had extensive areas of lower blood flow than normal in several areas of the brain. These affected areas are associated with such cognitive functions as planning, decision-making, impulse control, and judgement.
