Schizophrenia increases risk of dying from cancer: study

French researchers say that cancer is the second leading cause of death for people with schizophrenia. In a new study, the investigators found that cancer death rates among schizophrenics are four times the rate of the general population. This means that cancer is second only to suicide as a cause of death for people with this condition. Researchers say their finding suggests that doctors should pay closer attention to cancer prevention and detection for their schizophrenia patients.
