Schizophrenia linked to immune system

Scientists have found that people who have schizophrenia have genetic variations on a chromosome that is also partly responsible for immune system function. For their study, researchers analyzed DNA data from three studies that included 27,000 people--8,000 with schizophrenia and 19,000 people who did not have the disease. They found that the largest genetic differences between people with schizophrenia and those without it were found on chromosome 6, which also holds genes related to the immune system. That region of the human genome has not previously been linked to schizophrenia, researchers say.  Read full story >
