New schizophrenia drug's trial halted

Phase III clinical trials on a new drug to treat schizophrenia have been stopped, its makers report. Officials with drugmakers Lundbeck and Solvay decided to stop the trials on the drug bifeprunox after the medication did not show enough effect in the trials to warrant seeking marketing approval for it as a treatment for acute schizophrenia symptoms. Officials say they will may continue testing bifeprunox as a maintenance therapy for patients with schizophrenia.  Read full story >
