Long-acting drug approved for schizophrenia

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a sustained action form of the antipsychotic Invega for the treatment of schizophrenia. Invega Sustenna is a once-monthly injected medication designed to help prevent symptom relapses in schizophrenia patients who fail to take a more frequent dose of the medicine. FDA officials say the drug should be used with caution by people who have a history of seizure, diabetes, or low white cell count.  Read full story >
