Schizophrenia drug meets trial goals

The experimental schizophrenia drug lurasidone improved symptoms significantly better than a placebo in a late-stage clinical trial. A six-week study of 478 patients found that the drug helped users improve their scores in the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale, as well as the Clinical Global Impressions Severity scale, the drugmaker said. Weight gain was also less on lurasidone than in other antipsychotic drugs. Drugmaker Dainippon says it will likely seek FDA approval for the medication in early 2010.  Read full story >
