Question:
Is Abilify an SSRI or an SNRI?
Answer:
Abilify (also known as aripiprazole) is a member of the drug class called atypical antipsychotics, which differs from the SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and SNRIs (norepinephrine serotonin reuptake inhibitors) Abilify is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of schizophrenia. It is also used to treat people with bipolar disorder.
SSRIs are a group of antidepressants that include Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft and others. SNRIs are also antidepressants. Vestra and Cymbalta are SNRIs.
