We’ve all heard about foods that are thought to be aphrodisiacs, although the evidence to certain foods increasing your sexual desire doesn’t prove that foods can or cannot increase desire. There are however, foods that can offer better health – including men’s sexual health. Dr. Ridwan Shabsigh, in an article on Oprah.com, states, “With the proper diet, exercise and healthy body weight, many sexual dysfunctions in men can be dramatically improved.” 
Make sure your diet includes enough zinc. Not only are high levels of zinc associated with increased sexual desire but research also shows it may help in preventing prostate cancer. Foods high in zince include oysters, wheat germ, veal liver, low fat roast beef, roasted pumpkin seeds, dark chocolate, lamb, peanuts and crab.
L-arginine, an amino acid, can help to relax blood vessels and allow more blood flow to the penis. Foods high in L-arginine include seafood, walnuts, sesame seeds, dark chocolate and free-range game.
Foods high in antioxidants can help keep your cells healthy. Fresh produce such as tomatoes, red peppers, spinach, broccoli, berries and red grapes are all good sources of antioxidants. Dark chocolate (which also has zinc and L-arginine) is another good antioxidant food.
Eat the right kinds of fat. You don’t want to eliminate all fats from your diet. Some fats are needed to help your body produce hormones. Foods with the good fats include olive oil, salmon and nuts. Those that can clog your arteries can stop your penis from getting an adequate blood flow as well so make sure your saturated fat intake is within reasonable levels.
Sexual problems have also been linked to obesity; eating a well balanced diet and losing weight, if you are overweight, can help increase testosterone, which can, in turn, increase sexual desire and function.
A food rule of thumb is that any foods which are good for your heart are good for circulation and therefore good for improving the circulation in your penis as well.
While medications, such as Viagra, can help in the short-term, they are not permanent solutions or cures to erectile dysfunction. There are also a number of supplements offered to help improve sexual performance and desire, but, according to Dr. John Mulhall, director of the Sexual Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital says, “Every year, we review the literature on these compounds, these compounds - nutraceuticals like nitric oxide and ginseng – and there are none that have really been shown to be more than a placebo.” 
Lifestyle changes such as keeping a healthy diet and making sure you include exercise in your daily routine and not only will you improve your overall health but may improve your sex life as well.
