Is it safe....Or shud I try a different method..

By concrndlady Thursday, April 08, 2010

HI,

I want to go ahead an start using the Depo-Provera Contraceptive Injection, but am not able to do so because I was told it has to be on the 1st day of the period and also because my perod started yesterday evening an it is coming very very light and has basically stopped....

Should I go ahead and try taking the Oral Contraceptive Pill??? Will it pose a problem or harm my body if i decide to stop taking the pills after one month and start taking the Depo-Provera same time??

Hi there

Do you currently have access to both the injection and oral birth control pills?

This is definitely a question for your gynecologist to answer (I am not a doctor) but I can give you some information I have found in researching your question.

This is the official Depo-Provera site.

And here is how to contact them:

Consumers who have questions about any of our prescription medicines.

1-800-TRY-FIRST (1-800-879-3477)
Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. EST

I would maybe give them a call with your question as well as your doctor. You are going to want to know, regardless of your choice of birth control, if you will need a back up method during the first month of taking it.

Hope this helps.  Thank you for your question.
