Hello,
I am 18 years old. I am not currently sexually active but have been in the past. I am currently taking birth control pills, and have been more over 3 months now. Due to travelling I missed three days of my pack, so I got my period early. In the last three days, I have been experiencing painful inflammation and irritation on the outer lips (labia majora) of my vagina. I have tried taking anti-inflammatories, and a combination of heating, and ice packs. Nothing is working. I have searched all over the internet for answers and have not been able to come up with a reasonable diagnosis. I have only had one intimate partner who I am currently no longer seeing, so I do not believe that this is an STD symptom.
If anyone has Any idea on what could be the cause of this, I would deeply appreciate your feedback. Or if you have any suggestions on how to treat this, I would also be very grateful.
Thank you.

Hi there
I guess the first question I have to ask is have you seen a doctor or a gynecologist? There is really no way that you can know what this is without a doctor's help. For peace of mind I think it is important that you schedule an appointment.
Please know that I am not a doctor but merely a health writer for this site.
One thing that comes to mind is...is this a yeast or bacterial infection? Do you have any discharge? Are you using any new soaps or detergents or anything else which might cause an allergic reaction?
There is vulvovaginitis which includes swelling and inflammation but you didn't say if you have any other symptoms.
Here is a forum where patients talk about possible reasons for swelling in this area.
You would only be guessing though to try to find the answer on-line. Please do see your doctor.
