The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the vaccine Gardasil for the prevention of the human papillomavirus (HPV) in men. HPV, the most common sexually transmitted disease, causes genital warts that can lead to head, neck, anal, and penile cancers in men. The drug has been approved for use in males ages 9 to 26. The FDA previously approved Gardasil for women and girls of the same age for the prevention of cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancer caused by HPV.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Will you get your son or daughter the HPV vaccine? Why or why not?

in the family, I would urge that they received the vaccine too.
This is certainly ground breaking news...I had written about Gardisil in September about how it could prevent genital warts in males but it wasn't yet on the market. So this is great news that the FDA has approved it.
I do have two teen-age boys and I am definitely going to look more into this...I will be asking my sons' doctor about Gardasil. I think there will be a lot of parents who will want to know more information. Anyone who wants more information on Gardasil can visit their official web site here.
Thank you again, Kate, for this timely information.
