My cyst was discovered nearly three years ago, when I was 60+. This was discovered during my annual physical. I had no symptoms. I was sent for my first ultrasound and CA125 test, a blood test that can indicate cancer, to find out more about the cyst. The blood test showed a slightly elevated reading. I was given the option of watching and waiting, or having the cyst removed laproscopically. I decided to watch and wait, expecting the cyst to disappear on its own within a few months, as they usually do. For the next two years, I had an ultrasound and a CA125 test every six months. Early this year, I was sent to a cancer specialist "just to be sure". There was no reason to believe the cyst was malignant, although it continued to hang on. The recommendation was to have one more ultrasound and CA125 test, and if the cyst was still there, and unchanged--which it was--I should have it removed by my doctor. I plan to have the surgery next month for two reasons: 1) the repeated tests are expensive and a nuisance, and 2) developing the cyst at my age makes it more of a potential cancer risk. Time to say good-bye to it.

My first indication of something wrong was when i had intercourse, it hurt and i actually bled out. Went to the doctor and after a transvaginal ultrasound, was told i had a cyst on right ovary measuring 1.0 centimeter. Six months later, after having more pain, i went to a different doctor, got a transvaginal ultrasound and now the cyst is 1.9 by 2.4 centimeters. I'm tired of the cramping, bloating and spotting, so now i'm going back to the doctor in two weeks and see what is the alternative. I'm not going to keep waiting based on what a doctor tells me because its my body and i want to make sure nothing dramatic is taking place that will be discovered too late due to a "wait and see attitude".
