possibly increase the risk of pre-term delivery in some women.
This study was interesting because it showed that certain kinds of stress may increase the risk of pre-term delivery but other stressful situations may not. Debt, being injured by a partner, having someone close commit suicide, and being divorced during pregnancy may all contribute to pre-term delivery. Thirteen other "on par" stressful situations did not seem to impact the pregnancy and cause this negative outcome.
Specifically, women pregnant and in debt was the most consistent cause of pre-term delivery (33 weeks - 36 weeks gestation). The hope is that women who find themselves in debt will either seek financial assistance, family support, share with their doctors so they can offer advice.
