The 2-time "Dancing with the Stars" champion, Julianne Hough, has been diagnosed with endometriosis, a common condition in which tissue from the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing painful cysts and possible infertility. She is also going to have her appendix removed tomorrow - it may somehow be contributing to her stomach discomfort. With modern surgical approaches available these days, the appendectomy will be but a small blip in her commitment to Dancing with the Stars.
Endometriosis, usually develops in the pelvis and abdomen in these locations: the ovaries, the outside surface of the uterus, the membranes and ligaments of the pelvis and lower abdomen, the fallopian tubes, and the spaces between the bladder, uterus and rectum. You can get large fluid filled cysts or even cysts filled with thick-brownish mixture of blood and dead tissue called chocolate cysts. Without treatment this can be a long-standing condition. It does sometimes become less symptomatic after menopause, if you opt out of a surgical treatment beforehand.
