Q: Red bumps on outsde of Vagina

A few months ago i noticed a reed bump (looked like an ingrown hair) towards the top of my vagina where a shave. i attempted to tweeze it out but it scarred over and created an even bigger red bump. since then many of these bumps have appeared. there are clusters by my bikini line (where the vagina meets the thigh) and all around where i shave. there are none in the the lips or inner labia. some just look like red bumps. some are purpley ands some look like pimples with pus. i have tried to stop shaving for a while thinking it was razor burn but it did not help. now they itch like crazy (but i just shaved yesterday). they kinda hurt too .. the ones by my thigh because of the clothes i wear. i want to know what these are and how to take care of them. should i go to the gyno or dermatologist? is it an std? in grown hair.. really serious razor burn? an dby the way i did get tested for STDs two months ago and everything came back negative and i have not been with a new partner since then. HELP its really embarrasing i cant wear bikinis or low rise jeans or anything

Everything you have said points toward the need for you to see a doctor. There is obviously something going on between your skin and shaving. Some people are really sensitive there and shaving can cause the problems you talk about, especially if you shave in several directions, trying to get as smooth a shave as you can. Doing that can lead to ingrown hairs and rashes, and tiny infections.

There is always a chance for it to be an std if your are sexually active, so you could manage two things at once by seeing a doctor; to rule out one and hopefully get help with the other.

You would not be the first with this problem to discuss it frankly with a dermatologist, or a gynecologist. This is nothing new to them. Try reading this article by Merely Me, a writer and comuunity leader for this site. She wrote about, Bumps On The Vagina, How to Know if it is Serious. It may help you, at least as far as deciding to see a doctor, or try something else. I wish you well and rid of this.
